{thankful} when my kid prays

I am on my own tonight as Nick is working late.
We ate dinner (oatmeal when the man isn't home), played with matchbox cars,
the boys took bubble baths and we read a few library books.
Before the boys snuggled into bed, we sat together on the floor in the hall to say our prayers.
I asked each kid what they'd like to pray for.
George said Jesus, Eddie said everybody, and then we got to Lute.

I wanna pray for the people who don't have a
place to live and that other people who see them
would want to help them.
To give them food.
And I pray that they know that God is close to them
and that He loves them a lot.

I looked at him in awe, my heart full, throat aching as I tried to hold back tears.
My little five year old, with a heart for the world.
I was totally humbled and silently overwhelmed as I realized how mightily God was already working in his heart.
I am thankful for this boy who has taught me how to love on so many levels.
I really couldn't ask for anything more.

  1. What a precious little guy :)

  2. Those are the true and meaningful prayers. The ones who reassure you God lives.

  3. Carina, that is amazing. I can't imagine how much God is looking down smiling right now at the compassion you are teaching your children to have towards the ones many choose to reject & ignore so they do not have to do anything. I have wanted for a long time to in some way do something with our son to help him have more compassion. I love that we have a disabled young man in our church. It is a great opportunity for andrew to show him love. I'd love to do what you do though, feeding those who need it the most. I think I am going to pick up some things tomorrow so Andrew can give them to someone. I love the idea. Thank you for sharing :)

  4. Oh my! How precious?! I'm trying to hold back tears!
