But what's fair is fair. I live with a lot of dudes, and they like meat and potatoes and bread and noodles and butter and grease. So, it's compromise time. I figure if I serve vegetable laden, lean meat dishes most nights of the week, then a night or two of down home old school cookin' isn't going to hurt us too terribly.
So a few weeks back I kicked it off with a full blown country meal. I have never seen plates cleaned so quickly. And then refilled. And then cleaned again. I also happened to invite my dad and grandpa over because the ladies were out of town and they actually went home, called their wives, and told them about the meal. Why do I not get this response with stir fry?

So what's your favorite old school supper? I am compiling a list for our Sunday dinners. And if you're around, come on over!
Just FYI...we had quinoa for dinner tonight...and I'm jealous of your dinner.
ReplyDeleteI love quinoa and my kids actually love it too... I do add a little butter and sea salt to it just before serving though;)
ReplyDeleteThe only thing both kids usually ask for seconds on is Pancakes! Not sure it's a Sunday dinner though? I have a great recipe I'll give you:)
Okay...that looks delicious! I am a girl who likes her comfort food but needs to stop because it's almost spring which leads to summer and that means shorts! Ugh! :)
ReplyDeleteWe had quinoa yesterday, too - they will eat it, I just don't get the praise and accolades that I so desire :) Actually, truth be told, I think Nick would be happy with cardboard, but he made it abundantly clear that fried food is king!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite old school supper is stuffed pork chops. My dad makes them for me whenever I go home, but I've avoided getting the recipe because I will be tempted to eat them way too often! Anything with mashed potatoes and gravy works for me, too!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I used to have chicken fried steak for lunch every Sunday after church. YUM.
ReplyDeleteSounds amazing, but like you, I cannot control myself! My husband would love this... We LOVE comfort foods - casseroles especially laden with cheese :) Thank you so much for the sweet comment about my dad. It's been a tough month, but so glad to have the time to spend with him!
ReplyDeleteI'm a closet meatloaf lover. I know, gross, right?
ReplyDeleteLove it when it's super cold and grey outside. That with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. And biscuits, can't forget the biscuits! Jeesh, now I'm hungry!
I am a total grits lover making shrimp and grits one of my most fave Sunday suppers. p.s. I also have a tiny little obsession with kitchen items...what can I say I love a good butter dish.
ReplyDeleteI love potatoes and bread with butter in any form, however, I don't feel like I've had a full meal if there are no veggies on the side.
ReplyDeleteFried chicken, but that's too close to your chicken fried steak so I'll go with mac and cheese please.
ReplyDeleteNothing says comfort to me like pork chops smothered in cream of chicken soup served with mashed potatoes. It looks disgusting, but my stomach doesn't have eyes so it's all good.
ReplyDeleteStoppin by from SITS :)
Wish I had that ability...lol...My husband doesn't help much though...at least our new pup gets me out to burn off the calories I consume...I am a junkie for cinnamon rolls...my homemade doughnuts and my Giredhelli dark & Raspberry squares...hahaha.
ReplyDeleteMuch Love
